1-¿Cómo surge el colectivo Fotógrafos de Iphone Españoles?
El colectivo F.I.E. (Fotógraf@s de Iphone Españoles) nace de las conversaciones que mantuvimos Gabriel Samper y yo en el mes de noviembre pasado, con la intención de dar luz a un grupo español de apasionados por la fotografía realizada exclusivamente con iphone.
Gabriel y yo nos conocíamos a través de Instagram, aplicación en aquellas fechas sólo para IOS y actualmente también para Android. Una vez planteadas las intenciones y decidido el nombre del colectivo, invitamos a un tercer miembro, José Antonio Cosentino, el cual diseñó el logotipo. Entre los tres, y tras decidir que seríamos diez miembros, elegimos los siete restantes, con los criterios de que estuvieran lo más dispersados posible dentro de la geografía española, y que representaran estilos diferentes en su hacer fotográfico.
La iphoneografia, como movimiento artístico, con sus limitaciones y sus posibilidades, puede perfectamente expresar sentimientos y emociones. Pretendemos compartir y enseñar procesos de creación mediante la aceptación de los diferentes estilos fotográficos.
Tiene mérito realizar capturas sólo con este terminal y además editarlas con aplicaciones exclusivas para ello. Queremos decirles a los españoles que es una forma de expresión tan válida como la fotografía tradicional.
2-¿Porqué haces fotos con un Iphone y no con una cámara digital convencional?
Tengo una cámara convencional, pero debo reconocer que, a medida que me adentro más en el mundo de la iphoneografía, menos la uso. De hecho, apenas la he usado en los dos últimos años. Hacer fotografías con un iphone es muy cómodo, el terminal viaja siempre en mi cintura, se desbloquea rápidamente (por lo que es difícil perder una buena instantánea), y las fotografías son de muy buena calidad. El iphone 4S que uso actualmente tiene ya una resolución de 8 megapíxeles.
La fotografía hoy en día no se entiende sin un proceso de post-producción, llamado también edición. Esto ocurre en la fotografía realizada con “smart phones” y también en la fotografía digital convencional, donde programas como Photoshop o Lightroom son herramientas imprescindibles para todo fotógrafo. En el Appel Store existen infinidad de aplicaciones para editar las fotografías, por lo que no necesito pasar las fotos del iphone al ordenador para su edición, sino que el proceso completo, captura y edición, lo realizo en el mismo dispositivo. Todo esto hace que utilizar el iphone como herramienta principal para capturar escenas y momentos que quiero permanezcan eternamente sea actualmente la mejor opción para mí.
3-¿Crees que está en auge en la fotografía realizada con 'Smart Phones', y que con ello ha nacido una nueva generación de aficionados la fotografía?
Sin duda. La aparición de los “smart phones” ha democratizado la fotografía. Casi todo el mundo lleva un smart phone encima, con lo cual lleva la cámara fotográfica encima, y tiene la posibilidad de capturar momentos y escenas de manera instantánea.
A esto hay que unirle la aparición de aplicaciones con carácter de red social, como Instagram, que permiten compartir las fotografías con gente de todo el mundo, o la posibilidad de subir las fotografías a las redes sociales de manera instantánea, con lo que se puede compartir capturas con amigos y familiares de manera inmediata. Todo esto se realiza desde el mismo “smart phone” con el que se ha capturado y editado una fotografía. Todos ellos tienen acceso a Internet a través de redes 3G o wifi.
Ya no es necesario esperar a la vuelta de las vacaciones para revelar en papel las fotografías realizadas con una cámara y enseñarlas a todo el mundo. Ahora se suben a Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, etc inmediatamente, o bien se envían a familiares y amigos por WhattsApp desde el mismo dispositivo. Familiares míos me han contado este verano con imágenes sus vacaciones en el extranjero, de manera casi inmediata, simplemente mandándome las fotografías por whattsapp, o bien las han subido a Dropbox y me han enviado el enlace para que las visione.
“Smart phones”, nuevas tecnologías y redes sociales van de la mano en estos nuevos tiempos, y hacen que la fotografía esté al alcance de todo el mundo, entendiendo por “fotografía” el simple hecho de capturar imágenes.
Si entendemos por “fotografía” la captura de imágenes, sea cual sea el resultado, sí. Yo mismo soy un aficionado (apasionado, pero aficionado al fin y al cabo), no un profesional de la fotografía, en el sentido de que nunca he estudiado fotografía, ni vivo de ella. Lo que sé actualmente de fotografía lo he ido aprendiendo a lo largo de estos dos últimos años a base de hacer fotos, editarlas, repetirlas, volverlas a editar, y aprendiendo de aquellos que sí saben, de su forma de hacer fotografía, de capturar momentos sentimiento y emociones.
Tener conocimientos previos de fotografía ayuda, pero creo más en el talento y en el llamado “ojo fotográfico”, esa habilidad o don para saber ver donde otros no ven, y saber encontrar donde otros no encuentran. La carencia de conocimientos de fotografía se puede combatir y disimular con la edición. Iluminar una foto mal iluminada se puede hacer en la edición, enfocar el primer término y desenfocar el fondo se puede hacer luego en la edición, eliminar el ruido de una foto se puede hacer en la edición, corregir la posición de un elemento en la foto se puede hacer posteriormente en la edición. Tantas y tantas cosas y deficiencias se pueden corregir posteriormente en la edición, que es por eso por lo que digo que, para mí, es más importante el “ojo fotográfico” que los conocimientos, porque sin él, ya se puede editar hasta la saciedad una fotografía que, si desde el principio no cuenta nada, no emociona, no se va a conseguir que lo haga después de ser editada.
En resumen, cualquiera puede hacer fotos con un “smart phone” sin conocimientos de fotografía previos, pero entiendo que no todo el mundo puede hacer Fotografía, en mayúscula, con un “smart phone” por el simple hecho de capturar y editar. Para ello, en mi opinión, más que conocimientos previos de fotografía, se requiere talento y un buen “ojo fotográfico”.
Two weeks ago I received an email from Alba Garcia, editor of EFE, who was writing an article about mobile photography, and wanted to interview me about it as a member of FIE. I met Gabriel thanks to Instagram, application at that time only for IOS and now also for Android. Once we had stated the goals and decided the name of the group, we invited a third member, Jose Antonio Cosentino, who designed the logo. Among the three, and after deciding it would be ten members, we chose the remaining seven, with the criteria that they should be dispersed as much as possible within the Spanish territory, and represent different styles in their photography doing.
Iphoneography, as an artistic movement, with its limitations and possibilities, can perfectly express feelings and emotions. We intend to share and teach creative processes by accepting different photographic styles.
It is really surprising that we can capture images with this devise and also edit them with unique applications for it. We want to tell everyone in Spain that it is a form of expression as valid as traditional photography.
2 - Why do you shoot with an iPhone and not with a conventional digital camera?
I have a conventional camera, but I must admit that, the more I get deeper into the world of iphoneography, the less I use it. In fact, I've hardly used it in the last two years. Taking photos with an iPhone is very comfortable, the devise travels always in my waist, gets unlocked quickly (making it difficult to lose a good snapshot), and the pictures are of very good quality. The iPhone 4S I currently use has as a resolution of 8 megapixels.
Nowadays, photography is not understood without a post-production process, also called editing. This happens in mobile photography and also in conventional digital photography, where programs like Photoshop or Lightroom are essential tools for any photographer. In the Appel Store there are many applications to edit pictures, so I don´t need to transfer photos from my iPhone to the computer for editing, but the entire process, capturing and editing, take place on the same device. All this makes using the iPhone as a primary tool for capturing scenes and moments I want toremain eternally as the best option for me currently.
3 - Do you think there is a booming in mobile photography, and thus a new generation of amateur photography is born?
Definitely. The emergence of "smart phones" has democratized photography. Almost everyone carries a smart phone that can be used as a camera and so has the ability to capture moments and scenes instantly.
There´s no need to wait for the return of the holiday to develop in paper the pictures taken with a camera and show them to everyone. They can be uploaded to Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, etc immediately or sent to family and friends by WhattsApp from the same device. Members of my family have told me their this summer holidays abroad with, almost immediately, by simply sending me photographs via whattsapp or uploaded to Dropbox and have sent me the link so that I could see them.
4 - Anyone can take pictures with a mobile or does he need to have any prior knowledge of photography?
If we understand as "photo" any image captured, whatever comes out, yes. I am myself an amateur (passionate, but amateur after all), not a professional photographer, in the sense that I never studied photography, nor live thanks to it. What I know now about photography is what I have been learning over the last two years after taking pictures, editing them, repeating them, editing them back, and learning from those who do know, their way of doing photography, capturing moments feelings and emotions.
Previous knowledge of photography helps, but I believe more in talent and in the "photographic eye", that ability or gift for seeing where others do not see, and finding where others do not find. The lack of photography skills can be faught and disguised by editing. Lighting a poorly lit photo can be done by editing, focus on the foreground and blur the background can de done by editing, remove "noise" from a photo can be done by editing, correct the position of an element in the picture can be done later by editing. Lots and lots and deficiencies can be corrected later by editing. That is why I say that, for me, it is more important the "photographic eye" than knowledge, because without it, one may edit indefinitely a photo that, if the photo doesn´t express anything interesting from the very beginning, nothing interesting will come out after all the edition.
In short, anyone can take pictures with a "smart phone" with no previous knowledge of photography, but I understand that not everyone can do Photography, with a capital P, with a "smart phone" for the sake of capturing and editing. In order to get this, in my opinion, rather than prior knowledge of photography, one needs talent and a good "photographic eye".
