Streetphotography. Candela vs Sergio Parra.

From January 12th to February 26th, there has been an open exhibition in Plaza Santa Ana, Madrid, called "Camerinos" (Dressing rooms), a collection of portraits taken minutes before going to stage. It is a project by photographer Sergio Parra. A selection of these pictures has been compiled to reveal the beauty, the power and the feelings that drama inflicts.

The photos portray the actors in the intimacy of their dressing room. They are putting their make-up on, concentrating before the show. It´s the fascinating transformation of the actor into character.

Spanish and international actors accepted being photographied as they went over last minutes details, thus revealing a truly unknown aspect to the audience.

Taken in several Spanish theaters, the portraits depict the atmosphere as it is. The light, the distribution of objets, the imprinct that years of acting leaves on the face, everything is left untouched in a documentary-like attempt to capture the ritual that preceeds each performance.

One sunday, while walking around my place..., we came up suddenly with this exhibition.

My daughter Candela had taken by chance her camera with her. Without anyone telling her what to do, she started photographing each of the huge portraits. I saw then a unique opportunity to photograph her while doing this, without her even noticing it.

This post is the result of all those pictures I shot while she shot hers. I like them really very much. I tryed to combine the actor´s expression and my daughters expression, so that it seems that they are posing for her.

The only thing I regret is that it was a cloudy day, so there are no shadows. Despite this, I hope you like them as much as I do.

Del 12 de enero al 26 de febrero ha habido una exposición al aire libre en la Plaza Santa Ana de MAdrid llamada "Camerino", la cual es una colección de retratos de actores preparánose para salir a escena. Es un proyecto del fotógrafo Sergio Parra. Se ha reunido una selección de estos retratos para mostrar la belleza, fuerza y sentimiento que supone interpretar.

Todas las fotos han sido hechas minutos antes de la representación, en la intimidad del camerino, mientras el intérprete se maquilla y concentra, en el momento en que se produce la fascinante transformación de persona en personaje.

Artistas españoles e internacionales aceptaron ser retratados mientras ultimaban en camerinos su salida al escenario, mostrando una faceta desconocida a los espectadores.

Realizadas en distintos teatros españoles, nunca se han modificado las condiciones de los camerinos, ni la luz, ni la distribución de objetos, ni se ha hecho ningún retoque en la piel de los retratados, respetando el reflejo de las tablas en el rostro de cada uno. Con todo ello se ha pretendido captar, a modo de documental, el ritual que transcurre antes de cada actuación.

Un domingo, mientras paseábamos por nuestro barrio, nos topamos de repente con esta exposición.

Mi hija Candela se había llevado por casualidad su cámara consigo. Sin que nadie le dijera nada, se puso ella sola a fotografiar los enormes retratos. Vi entonces una oportunidad única de fotografiarla sin que se diera cuenta, mientras hacía esto.

Este post es el resultado de todas las fotos que hice mientras ella hacía las suyas. Realmente me gustan mucho. Intenté combinar la expresión de los artistas con la de Candela, de manera que pareciera que estaban posando para ella.

Lo único que lamente es que estuviera nublado, y por lo tanto no hay sombras. Aún así, espero que os guste tanto como a mí.
