Metropol Parasol, Sevilla. April 2011

On March 27th, 2011 the Metropol Parasol was opened in sevilla, a work by Jürgen Mayer, architect from Berlin, after almost six years and multitudes of problems.

I recognize that I didn´t like it during the construction. I did not understand that structure there. But once completed, and after visiting it last Easter, I love it. Despite its very modern look, I understand it as extremely respectful to the surrounding environment, and it is a beautiful counterpoint to the traditional architecture of Seville.

It is a very controversial building, and so far unappreciated by the people of Seville. But I am convinced that, over time, it will become a landmark for the city, a place visited by people in general.

I was fortunate to visit on rainy days, so I had the opportunity to take photos with interesting reflections.  

El 27 de marzo de 2011 se inauguró la obra arquitectónica Metropol Parasol, obra del arquitecto berlinés Jürgen Mayer, tras casi seis años y multitu de problemas.

Reconozco que durante las obras, no me gustaba mucho. No entendía esa estructura allí. Pero una vez finalizada, y tras visitarla esta Semana Santa, me gusta muchísimo. A pesar de su aspecto tan moderno, la entiendo como tremendamente respetuosa con el entorno que la rodea, y es un precioso contrapunto a la arquitectura tradicional de Sevilla.

Es una obra muy polémica, y hasta ahora poco apreciada por los sevillanos. Pero estoy convencido que, con el paso del tiempo, se convertirá en un referente para la ciudad, y un lugar muy visitado por la gente en general.

Tuve la fortuna de visitarlo en días d elluvia, por lo que tuve la oportunidad de hacer fotos con reflejos muy interesantes. Aquí las dejo.
